We are so lucky to have the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in our neighborhood. It is a special place to bring family, friends and leashed pets. This Non Profit Organization offers a safe haven for rare and magnificent animals that are retired from laboratory studies, film industries, zoos or personal pet owners who can no longer give care. Unfortunately these animals would have been euthanized if they didn't come to the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary houses over 125 animals including Chimpanzees, Orangutans, Monkeys, Tortoises, Snakes, Alligators,Tropical Birds and more. The Sanctuary is run entirely by volunteers and relies on the generosity of the community and local businesses. Get involved and make a difference!
For more information about the animals, hours of operation, events, volunteer and donation programs please visit their website http://suncoastprimates.com . Nikki, owner of Nikki's Home And Pet Care Services, LLC volunteers at the Sanctuary and raves about the rewarding experience and joy of getting to know the people and animals.
For over 60 years, the Sanctuary has provided love, healthy food and superb veterinary care for the animals. It is not a fancy place as some of the original buildings (and animals) are still in place making it a wonderfully interesting place to visit. Robert and Mae Noell purchased the original sanctuary property in 1954. Upon their passing, Granddaughter Debbie Cobb was the only family member who stepped up to save the beloved Sanctuary. Watch the fascinating history and story on Strange Inheritance.
